Ransomware High Alert

The Uganda National Computer Emergency Response Team and Coordination Center under the National Information Technology Authority - Uganda (NITA-U) is aware of an eminent threat affecting many organizations. The threat is in form of a malicious software attack known as Ransomware that is mainly targeting organisations that have unpatched Microsoft Windows Operating Systems. Ransomware is described as sophisticated and malicious software that utilizes advanced attack related methods to block systems access and make data totally unusable. A successful attack would therefore be VERY damaging to an organization’s data and information with very HIGH chances of complete data loss (on infected computers) as well as bring an organization to a standstill.
