Steps for Secure Home Computing

Secure your Home Network

Configure Your wireless networks with strong encryption preferably - WPA2 with Advanced Encryption Standard (that's tech speak for "really good and effective security." )
Remember to change the default password to something that is very hard to guess. Use Upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols.

Follow Your Employers Policies

No matter where you are working remember to always follow your company's security practices - including policies for Cloud, Mobile and Social Computing.

Keep an organised Work space

Always remember to keep a clean desk, secure work files in a lockable cabinet and be mindful of the information whether at home or when working in a public area or place.

Keep Software Up to date

Keep security software on your work and home computers current and install security patches as soon as possible.

(LAPTOPS/MOBILE DEVICES) Keep it off the floor

Portable devices such as laptops and mobile phones are vulnerable to theft and loss so they should be secured properly. No matter where you are in public - at a conference, a coffee shop, or a registration desk - avoid putting your laptop on the floor. If you must put it down, place it between your feet or at least up against your leg, so that you're aware of it.

Back up your data and store securely

Remember to test your back up solution from time to time to make sure it's working, and store your devices, computers and backup drives in a secure area with locks and access control systems.
